With the excitement of Orca Bay Part 5 behind me, I thought I could spend the day cutting and sewing.
Now we have triangles to sew onto the HST units from part 3. That's OK because I have the Accuquilt die to cut them with. 700 wing triangles isn't really that many!?!?
Now we have triangles to sew onto the HST units from part 3. That's OK because I have the Accuquilt die to cut them with. 700 wing triangles isn't really that many!?!?
So I start out with the 2 1/2" strips laid on the die like so!
Then these babies are made.
They are then sewn onto these.
And as if by magic, the results are these!
How cool is that? But let's not forget that I have to sew 700 pieces onto 350 units first!!!
Oh well, I will carry on. Meanwhile back at the ranch, the red strips from part 4 are still being churned out at a slow but steady pace.
I played around with some of the components so far and this lovely star came out.
But I'm not really sure where the part 1 blocks are going to go. Anyone have a clue?
So this is as far as I got today. The weather is horrible and grey and wet and I really want to sit by the fire and do some hand-piecing while watching some telly.
Let's hope tomorrow is at least dry.
I love your star layout, but like you I haven't a clue where we are going with the parts we've made so far. This is a real mystery!! You're making brilliant progress, I still haven't made a start on clue 5 :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sandra, You are so lucky having an Accuquilt. I've been thinking of getting one. Would you recommend ?? I love your progress and I'm so pleased to see some of your blacks are patterned too ( mine are and I was a bit worried about that). Love your layout at the end of your post.
ReplyDeleteYour colors are lovely, so brilliant .... whatever the layout, it will turn out magnificently. This is so exciting !
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love that black fabric! And your reds are looking just great with the number of strings you put into each block. Great job!
ReplyDeleteI was waiting for a sale to get a GO cutter but those dies are so expensive, so I'm thinking... rethinking... thinking...
What size die are you using for the triangles? I plan to do the quilt, but have decided to wait and see how everything is going---plus I have no time at all. I do have a GO! and love that you have figured out a way to use it. I may have that die as well depending on what size you are using. Love you colors!
ReplyDeleteI love your progress on your Orca Bay.
ReplyDeleteI certainly recommend the Accuquilt for applique and for things like this mystery. The die I have used is the 2" triangle that finishes at 1 1/2". I cut a 2 3/4" strip to make sure there is just a bit over the edges so the shapes are cut neatly. Works a treat with just slivers left over. It does take some trial and error until you find out what works.
ReplyDeleteHaving that AccuQuilt die would have been handy! I like the way you are trying out settings!
ReplyDeleteQuilting by the River
This is the first time I really, really think the AccuQuilt would have been a good thing...my shoulder is killing me from cutting all those triangles!
ReplyDeleteLoved the layout of your blocks. I am excited about the quilt but I haven't had the chance to start mine, yet....last minute Christmas gifts still to be done.
ReplyDeleteIt is grey here in Texas, also. But we are blessed to get some of the wet stuff, we are still in a severe drought, so come on rain.
The cutter must make short work of getting all those triangles ready. I love how your colours look together.
ReplyDeleteI was never interested in the accuquilt before. Your fast and perfect triangles have me very interested! Your skinny red strings and all of your blocks look great!
ReplyDeleteWow those triangle went fast for you. Love the photos with all the red blocks. Thanks for following on my blog. I hope you will enjoy it. Love to share.
ReplyDeleteI like those large prints, they will definatly add to your quilt! I wish I had an accuquilt! Happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteYour little HSTs with wings look perfect Sandra :) I even spy a black that I'm using too, lol... I wonder what we'll be doing with those little strip pieced squares. All will be revealed soon :)) You're way ahead of me btw ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! Elly way up at the opposite end of Britain in Caithness where it has been very windy and dark.
